Bears prompt road closure
The Moose-Wilson Road is temporarily closed due to bear activity in the area, Grand Teton National Park announced Wednesday.
Since grizzly and black bears are attracted to the chokecherry and hawthorn berries that grow on the side of the road, the road will be closed intermittently in the next several weeks.
The road is closed to vehicles, including bicycles, from the Death Canyon trailhead access road to the intersection with the Teton Park Road by the Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center.
Signs alerting motorists to the closure are on Wyoming Highway 390, and at the intersection of Teton Park and Moose-Wilson roads to alert motorists heading south to Teton Village from Moose.
Because of its narrow surface lined with dense vegetation, hillsides and wetlands, the Moose-Wilson Road does not allow for a safe distance between people and bears, park officials said. They said the road will be open as soon as the bears leave.
