The hospital still advises parents to be mindful of symptoms consistent with the respiratory virus. Most symptoms are like those of the common cold.
If your child experiences shortness of breath or wheezing, doctors want you to immediately visit the emergency room. Most children who have been admitted have recovered quickly. the average stay is no more than five days.
EIRMC said families can avoid getting and spreading the virus by following these tips:
Stay home when feeling sick, and consult with your doctor if your child is experiencing symptoms. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom. Avoid kissing, hugging, touching, and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick. Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.
There is no vaccine for EV-D68.
