Report: Man stabbed himself while handcuffed

New information has been released on how a local man died while in police presence.

Blackfoot Police said in a release Tuesday an officer was checking on storage units on South Broadway on July 31 at about 11:15 p.m. He found a group of people and learned one of the men was on probation.

That man was Kyle Eddington.

After placing a call to Eddington’s probation officer, the police officer handcuffed him in front of his body and took him to his home. While at the home, Eddington was able to grab a knife from the kitchen and stabbed himself, they said. He died on August 2 at the hospital.

The Pocatello Police Department conducted an independent investigation.

Their report is now under review at the Bingham County Prosecutor’s office. The review is still awaiting an autopsy report.

Police said as a result of the search of the storage unit, Zane Boekholder was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
