Governor Otter applauds Supreme Court action blocking appeals court ruling
Idaho Governor Butch Otter is applauding action by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy Wednesday. The justice temporarily blocked an appeals court ruling that declared gay marriage legal in Idaho and Nevada.
In a statement, Otter said, “I’m pleased that Justice Kennedy has given us the opportunity to make our case in a way that helps avoid the confusion some other states have faced. We also asked the 9th Circuit for the same relief, but I’m grateful that Justice Kennedy acted so promptly.”
Otter said he intends to “protect the Idaho Constitution and the mandate of Idaho voters in support of traditional marriage.”
