Man pleads guilty to attempted murder

As part of a plea deal, 54-year-old Twain Thomas has entered a guilty plea to one count of second degree attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault.

Police said Thomas entered an upstairs apartment on the 200 block of South Garfield in Pocatello with two people in it and threatened the residents with a machete in the morning of Feb. 22.After leaving that apartment, Thomas then entered another downstairs apartment, also with two people in it, and made similar threats. One of the residents shot him in the upper torso.

According to court records, the Bannock County prosecutor agreed to the plea deal last Thursday. In exchange, the state agreed to drop a second charge of attempted second degree murder and burglary.

Thomas is being held in the Bannock County jail on $200,000 bond. A presentence investigation is under way. Thomas will appear for sentencing before 6th District Judge Robert Naftz on January 15.
