Pocatello man sentenced for Bingham Memorial wiretapping

Former Bingham Memorial Hospital employee Jack York, 46, of Pocatello has been sentenced to three years probation and a $1,000 fine for one felony county of wiretapping.

Seventh District Judge David Nye also ordered York to serve 300 hours of community service for his role in wiretapping at the Blackfoot hospital.

York served as director of information technology at Bingham Memorial between 2009 and 2010 when the crime occurred.

York was indicted by a Bingham County grand jury in 2013 on three counts of felony wiretapping. According to the indictment, York allegedly intercepted and recorded phone calls made by and to former Bingham Memorial Dr. Robert Rosin and his staff.

The Idaho Attorney General’s Office was acting as special prosecutor in the case. In a plea agreement, York entered an Alford plea in return for dismissal of two remaining felony counts. By entering an Alford plea, York admitted the state had sufficient evidence that a jury would likely have found him guilty.

York was one of four hospital employees charged in the investigation. Last year, Louis Kraml, the chief executive officer at the hospital, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of stalking in the second degree. Kraml was ordered to perform community service, fined and given a withheld judgment. On Aug. 28, 2014, the court dismissed the withheld judgment.

Prosecutors also dismissed the charges filed against two other information technology specialists employed at the hospital.
