Old Town businesses offer hassle-free Black Friday
While many spend the hours leading up to Black Friday camped outside big box stores, businesses in Old Town Pocatello are offering shoppers many of the same deals with less of the hassle.
Kelly Harmon, who owns Muse Boutique Salon and Spa in Old Town, is offering 20 percent off on all of her merchandise this Friday.
But the discounts aren’t her biggest selling point.
“It’s very charming, it’s very sweet. You don’t have to get up and be trampled by 500 other people,” said Harmon.
This is Harmon’s fourth Black Friday.
She’s just one of several business owners in Old Town gearing up for the year’s biggest shopping day.
“Big box stores and the chain restaurants have an appeal, but honestly, the charm and the appeal to shop here and shop locally is growing stronger year after year,” said Stephanie Palagi, executive director of Old Town Pocatello.
But Harmon stresses she isn’t trying to compete with big box stores.
While many will be open bright and early, Harmon plans to open at 11 a.m.
She also doesn’t plan to open on Thanksgiving.
“I wouldn’t even think of being open on Thanksgiving,” said Harmon.
After a day of shopping, shoppers can take in Old Town’s annual Night of 1,000 Santas Festival and Parade Friday evening.
Harmon said she still has Santa hats available for those interested.
