Lucy Oliva: Distinguished Student
If you walk into the computer lab at Firth High School you may see Lucy Oliva hard at work. She often spends weeks getting her graphics projects just right. That’s what happened with her Business Professionals of America promotion poster.
“It took me over a month just to get the text the way I wanted it to look and then I just layered over some textures I found on the web,” Oliva said.
With that kind of drive it’s no wonder teacher Kim Harrison who nominated Lucy wrote, “Lucy is the type of person that you know, without a doubt, will succeed in life in any area she chooses.” Lucy also enjoys working on the yearbook staff.
“I think just being able to interact with all the students and being able to capture pictures and moments that happened throughout the whole year is pretty fun,” Oliva said.
Oliva is involved in several AP and Honors classes and gets great grades. How does she do it?
“Studying – very long periods of time studying,” Oliva said. “There are some hard classes and you have to be sure to take the right notes and pay attention and get help from the teacher when you need it.”
Oliva is involved in many activities. She plays softball and soccer and tutors elementary students, just to name a few. Oliva studies hard, but also finds time to hang out with friends and go to school activities. It’s all part of keeping the right balance in high school.
“Don’t forget about college and all that, but just have fun because these are golden four years you won’t get back so just make the best of it,” Oliva said.
