Searchers look for evidence in killing along I-15
Authorities from two counties were searching along Interstate 15 on Friday for evidence linked to Thursday’s killing of a Pocatello woman.
Police said AnnaRae Ponce, 34, was shot at a New Year’s party in Idaho Falls by her boyfriend, Kevin Michael Mcquilliams, 25, of Pocatello. Mcquilliams left the area and was arrested in California later that day.
On Friday, Bingham County volunteers were working their way north, while Bonneville County crews worked their way south. They were riding four-wheelers and snowmobiles.
“Any evidence that we gather is very crucial as far as making sure we can build a strong and a substantial case against anyone, especially in this particular instance where it’s such a serious crime,” said IFPD Public Information Officer Joelyn Hansen.
“Evidence solidifies what occurred, it solidifies the statements that are being made to us regarding what occurred, and when it occurred and those things that are important in prosecuting a case,” said Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Clark.
Mcquilliams was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter. Clark said proper documentation will be submitted to California authorities to release Mcquilliams into Bonneville County custody.
After the morning search, Idaho Falls police said no evidence was found. They would not release details on what they were seeking
