Fit and Fall Proof classes offer prevention
Southeast Idaho Public Health is trying to address a problem that may not seem as dangerous as it really is – falling down.
Public health is offering Fit and Fall Proof classes for anyone interested, but geared toward those 65 or older. The classes teach simple techniques and exercises to strengthen muscles and joints.
The courses will also address specific cases, like how to strengthen yourself after a hip replacement. Michelle Butterfield, health education specialist, said many falls can be avoided by simply taking the proper prevention steps beforehand.
“When our emergency service personnel are dispatched because of falls, I’m not saying that’s not important,” Butterfield said. “But it’s a big prevention tool and at Public Health, what we promote and really push is prevention.”
