Keys left at crime lead police to suspect

Keys left at a crime led to an Idaho Falls man’s arrest Tuesday.

An Idaho Falls man was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of malicious injury to property after an incident at Sugar Mill Substation.

Officers were called to the substation for a suspicious person. They said Terry O. Hackman, 54, was caught cutting the fence and copper ground wire at the station on North 25th East.

Police said when they arrived, Hackman took off running and got away.

However, officers found a bag with copper ground wire in it and a set of keys where a hole had been cut in the fence. The keys worked with a Ford Ranger parked nearby. The pickup was registered to Hackman.

Officers later found Hackman at his home on the 3200 block of Sonora.

Hackman was arrested on a felony charge of malicious injury to property and booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
