Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance hosts climate change talk
The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance welcomed Dr. Johannes Loschnigg Monday night to discuss the politics of climate change.
Loschnigg is the former senior policy analyst at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In his time there from 2009 to 2013, he helped develop federal policy for renewable energy, climate change, aerospace and earth satellite observations.
Monday night he discussed the debate about the science and impact of climate change, as well as the ideological battles.
The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance was thrilled to host, because of its recent launch of Agenda 22. The recently launched initiative is a vision for what Jackson Hole can do to combat climate change. Executive Director Craig Benjamin said Agenda 22 creates a vision for the community, wildlife, transportation, housing, energy and more.
“It’s everything from local policies we can adopt to things individual people can do with their daily lives,” said Benjamin. “It focuses on policy changes at the city and county levels, because we believe, as a community at the local level, we can have a large impact.”
Benjamin pointed to wildfires, super storms and catastrophic droughts as products of climate change.
“It’s really an action plan for things we can actually do over the next three to five years to make Jackson Hole a national model of living in balance with nature,” said Benjamin.
