Locals react to the opening weekend of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie

It’s a personal three letter word that some feel uncomfortable talking about sex.

The movie that has gained a lot of national attention, “Fifty Shades of Grey” has started showing in local theaters.

The sexual overtone of the movie is why Idaho State University professor Dr. Jeremy Thomas says people are against it.

Thomas studies sexuality and says the controversy surrounding it isn’t such a bad thing.

“I think there’s value in these things starting a conversation and so we see that people are talking about this it’s receiving a lot of press. People are thinking about relationships and different kinds of possibilities in ways that they weren’t before,” said Thomas. The movie sheds light on romantic partners who take part in erotic sexual activities.

“So if you think about all of the romantic movies, romantic comedies that Hollywood produces and clearly there would be lots and lots of movies that you wouldn’t look to as great examples for healthy, heterosexual types of relationships,” said Thomas.

Locals movie goers say if you don’t agree with the story line, you can skip out on the popcorn and soda.

After all, they say it’s your choice.

The Carmike in Chubbuck and the Grand Teton theater in Ammon are showing the movie.

Over the four-day opening weekend, ticket sales are expected to reach $100 million.
