Former Artco building in Rexburg comes down

Out with the old and in with the new. The original Artco building on the corner of 2nd East and Main Street in Rexburg came crashing down as construction crews make way for a new business. For longtime Rexburg locals, its a mix of feelings.

“I have mixed emotions,” said Dan Quayle, a Rexburg native. “I’m fond of the old things. I grew up here and I like seeing old buildings and landscapes, but I realize growth in the area is necessary.”

The demolition is part of a larger change in Rexburg. What was once a small farming community is quickly becoming a regional hub. It means people who have lived in the city all their lives have seen big changes.

“Well I think the community needs change,” said Shane Weimer, of Rexburg. “Its hard to see some of the buildings go, but I think change will do the town and city good.”

Mountain America Credit Union which now owns the property, said it plans to build a new, more permanent building to replace its small temporary module.
