ISU holds spring career fair

Idaho State University students dressed to impress at Wednesday’s annual Spring Career Fair. There they found out what jobs are in demand and what the education requirements are.

Introductions and connections are a major part of the job search. That’s why 75 employers had booths at the fair.

“They give out business cards and make contacts,” said Lance Erickson, Career Center director. “A lot of students are here to look for jobs, internships and just network in general.”

Erickson said this fair is a good first step for students to get a feel of what employers are looking for in the job market, and generally find out how to swim in the waters of job searching.

“We track their class level, their major and we help them understand what their looking for and kind of direct them in certain areas,” he said.

The high-demand jobs include health care, engineering, accounting, information technology and marketing. The job fair also taught students about first impressions.

“Employers are always looking for those people who are really ready,” said Erickson. “The ones that are ready are dressed up and ready to go.”

Other companies at the fair include Amy’s Kitchen, Allstate, Melaleuca and Basic American Foods , which is looking to fill production, operations and engineering positions in Blackfoot, Shelley and Idaho Falls.
