American Falls passes voluntary smoke restrictions

American Falls City Council passed voluntary smoking restrictions for the city’s parks Wednesday night.

This happened after a public hearing Wednesday on a proposed involuntary ban drew overwhelming opposition.

The ban would have made it an infraction to smoke within 25 feet of ball parks, playgrounds, picnic areas and restrooms in all city parks. Violators would have faced a $25 fine.

Under the new rule, those who smoke within no-smoke zones won’t be fined.
