Guns-N-Gear teaches kids rifle safety

As more school shootings and child gun safety become more prevalent, Guns-N-Gear Sport shop, located in Idaho Falls, is working to teach kids how to use rifles safely, while teaching them about firearm safety.

“It’s always hard to teach your own kids or own siblings, so they get to bring them here and have somebody else to teach them,” said lead gun instructor Pete Italiano. “Our instructors here at Guns-N-Gear are very good and very patient. We take out time and at the same time we’re always watching for safety and keep ingraining the safety aspects of firearms.”

The gun range and sports shop has kicked off an after-school program to teach kids rifle safety. Children learn how to handle a rifle, how to shoot it, and the importance of only operating a firearm if a parent or adult is present.

“Idaho is ranked No. 6 in the United States for gun ownership and we’re a very big gun community,” said Italiano. “Having guns in the homes and hunters and fishermen here in the state of Idaho is very big. We just want to make sure they get started correctly.”

Guns-N-Gear Sport has been open for several months in the Snake River Landing Plaza in Idaho Falls. The after-school program accepts children 7 and older. Classes starts at 4 p.m. and is held once a week. For more information on upcoming registration and more gun safety classes contact the shop at 208-227-8400.
