Companies look to recruit from Rexburg

More than 100 companies are looking to Rexburg for new employees and interns. Many companies said they hope to attract college students from BYU-Idaho.

On Thursday afternoon, the companies packed the BYU-I center for the career fair at the university. The fair is meant to help students understand the importance of preparation and networking.

“It has made me be more aware of what I need to have on an resume and how I present myself to people. First impressions are a big deal,” said Levi Smith, BYU-I student.

Some of the companies in attendance Thursday included: USAA, Grand Teton Council and Barton Consulting. Barton Consulting is located in Idaho Falls and Rexburg. They help companies with several things including web design and development.

“Barton Consulting has been coming to the career fairs for the past four years. We come here for internships and full-time positions. The college has a lot of programs that we look for,” said Trever Turpin, employee with Barton Consulting.

Another company called IM Flash Technologies manufactures a type of flash memory and distributes it to Intel and Micron.

“They will come to Utah for a period of three to four months for an internship opportunity and if they perform well we will give them full-time employment opportunities,” said Ben Fullmer, with IM Flash Technologies.

Students at the fair said they are grateful for the opportunities.

“It is important for students like me who don’t know what they want to do in the future, but know what they enjoy. This gives us an opportunity to find jobs that potentially could become our careers,” said Lexanne Klimes, BYU-Idaho student.

The BYU-Idaho career fair is held during the fall and winter semesters. The cost for a business to attend is $125, which covers one booth and two recruiters.
