Man to face charges in Idaho in death of girlfriend

Kevin Mcquilliams, 25, of Pocatello will be returned to Idaho to face charges in connection with the New Year’s Day shooting death of his girlfriend. AnnaRae Ponce, 34, was shot during a New Year’s Eve party in Idaho Falls.

Bonneville County Prosecutor Daniel Clark said Mcquilliams waived extradition last Thursday, apparently after he was granted a say in custody arrangements for his four-year-old son. The boy was with Mcquilliams when he was arrested in Truckee, California, on New Year’s Day.

Mcquilliams decision means Idaho will not have to go through a process of extradition warrant proceedings through the governor’s office.

The court orders require Idaho to bring Mcquilliams back to Idaho within a “reasonable amount of time.” Clark said his office would act on that order very quickly, but would not say exactly when Mcquilliams would be back in Idaho.

Mcquilliams was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault. Clark said those charges may be modified after prosecutors receive documentation regarding his criminal activity in other states.
