Ririe basketball player wins Distinguished Student Award
Brooke Griffith stands out in several areas in high school, but her biggest passion is basketball.
“Just everything it’s taught me — it’s more than just sports, it teaches you lessons that last a lifetime,” Griffith said.
The district champion Bulldogs went to state, and even though they came up just short, Griffith is amazed at the community support.
“I feel like everyone in the whole community came to support us – it’s awesome,” Griffith said.
Griffith is senior class president and is on a youth committee at church. In those positions she finds service opportunities very rewarding.
“To see everyone you help,” Griffith Said. “You get so much more out of it than you think. You’re working so you expect it would be hard, but it pays off in the end.”
Another rewarding activity for Griffith has been yearbook editor.
“I just want to keep putting more stuff in, getting everyone involved, making sure everyone in the school gets remembered,” Griffith said.
Griffith says high school is a time to try new things to see what you’re good at – even if it’s a little scary. She was scared when the coach urged to try pole vaulting and she accepted.
“You get a rush from falling from heights, and then you want to get more of a rush, so you try to go even higher and it’s rewarding,” Griffith said.
