Simpson, Risch introduce Boulder-White Clouds bill

A wilderness bill to protect the Boulder-White Clouds of central Idaho was introduced Thursday in the U.S. House and Senate.

U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson has been working on this bill for a decade.

Fellow Idaho Republican Sen. Jim Risch did not support it the last time it was introduced, but he said Thursday he gives full credit to Simpson for getting all the parties on board once again to compromise on this wilderness bill. He believes it will get passed.

The bill would protect 275, 665 acres in three separate wilderness areas.

Risch said Simpson has an agreement with the White House. The administration will hold off on declaring the Boulder White Clouds a national monument if the Idaho delegation can get a wilderness bill hammered out.
