American Red Cross recognizes heroes

The American Red Cross held it’s first East Idaho real heroes luncheon Thursday .

11 awards were given to people who dedicate their lives to helping others.

“You know I had a good crew with me that day. There’s a lot of guys there that deserve just as much if not more than what I’m getting today ,” Aaron Cliburn said.

He was part of the firefighter crew that helped an unresponsive woman out her burning home on new years day .

In below zero weather at 5 in the morning Cliburn carried her outside through the heavy smoke and flames where she was released to medics and rushed to EIRMC.

For his selfless work and courage cliburn received the fire safety hero award.

However, it’s not just emergency crews that are recognized at these events.

Heroes take on many roles.

Every opportunity Glenn Spracher had to donate blood he did to save others lives.

Spracher passed away in 2013 but until he was in poor health he made giving a priority.

His children accepted the blood donor hero award today in his honor.

“There are such humble people in this world that first of all volunteer for us and also serve in the community, members of the military, members of the emts…they’re so humble. it’s just one day out of the year…one day out of the year it’s nice to give them a little special recognition” Nicole Sirak Irwin with the American Red Cross said.

The luncheon raised 50-thousand dollars for the red cross. the funds will go to helping disaster victims get back on their feet.
