Community honors a local hero

Wood’s Funeral Home was packed full with family and friends who came out to remember a very special hero of Idaho Falls on Saturday.

Roland Clark, known as “RC” by many, was a member of the Idaho Falls firefighters union for 37 years.

Clark loved his job but even more so his community.

Those who worked side by side with him say helping others was his passion

“He was a very caring person about doing his job and providing the service that he was hired to do. He was very devoted to the fire department and serving the people of Idaho Falls,” Brent Bailey said.

Clark wasn’t just a firefighter, he was the first paramedic in the state of Idaho.

Back in the early ’70s he was part of a pilot EMT program.

It took almost three years for him to become certified because in the area back then there were not paramedics or a training program.

Those who knew him say he leaves a legacy and his friendship will never be forgotten.

Clark was instrumental in projects and programs that are still in place at the Idaho Falls Fire Department.
