Students celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday

Elementary students throughout the country celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a read-a-thon Monday.

Mountain Valley Elementary School in Ammon had firefighters and other community members in to read to children.

The school was elaborately decorated and buzzing with prize drawings over the loudspeaker.

Librarian Jennifer Horrocks said the day is a way to get kids excited about reading.

“I’m very thankful for everybody who participated today,” said Horrocks. “It’s really important to the kids to see members of our community come out and read to them. They really respond well to that.”

This is the 18th year the National Education Association has used Dr. Seuss’ birthday as “Read Across America Day.”
