Girls participate in STEM
Eighth grade girls from across Eastern Idaho explored science, technology, engineering and math careers Friday.
It’s for the “My Amazing Future Workshop.” The goal is to show the girls STEM careers.
Students worked with and learned from scientists and engineers.
The girls had a range of sessions to choose from. They ranged from learning how hip replacements work to how hackers think.
“I’m just excited to do everything. I think that today my favorite thing so far has been the hacking, unhacking because it’s so exciting. You get close and you’re like ‘Oh my God, adrenaline rush. ‘ it just gets really exciting,” said Taya Medllin.
“Girls can do stuff too. Girls want to shine sometimes too and not just guys,” said Gema Espinosa.
“Like right now there aren’t a lot of girls in any of those fields, and I like how it gives us the chance to shine,” Medllin said.
