Contractors donate $200,000 of work to build a community center
“It just doesn’t work. It’s a scheduling nightmare and we just can’t physically do it,” Salmon school board vice chairman Chuck Overacker said.
The district not only lost classrooms, but also a gym.
“It’s just impossible with one gymnasium,” Overacker said.
Local contractors are helping build a gymnasium by donating their time and money to create the buildings foundation.
“We’re thinking it’s gonna cost a half million dollars just to put the shell up,” Overacker said.
It would eventually have two basketball courts inside.
It’s not just for sports, it’s for the performing arts, too.
“We’re trying to make it a community event center with maybe possibly a 500-seat stage. We’re looking at $1.5 to $2 million for a completed project,” Overacker said.
The district will not run a bond and will only use donations.
There is a fund set up at Salmon High School.
