Pocatello wants to widen, add stoplights to Hawthorne/Quinn intersection

A busy Pocatello intersection could be getting a makeover.

City engineers have proposed adding stoplights and turn lanes to the Hawthorne/Quinn intersection in the interests of cutting down on congestion.

“There’s been times I’ve been sitting for quite a while many blocks down,” said Jamess Skunkcap, who frequently drives through the intersection.

There’s currently only a single right-turn lane on Quinn Road and both roads, for the most part, consist of a single lane in each direction. The city’s plans call for new right-turn and left-turn lanes in addition to crosswalks, sidewalks and a bike lanes.

“Having the traffic control will reduce the amount of cars that will be backing up at the intersection,” said project engineer Jeff Mansfield.

The city will be taking public comment on the proposal until May 15.
