Pirates sailed through Idaho Falls

Typical traffic hazards include distracted drivers, construction cones, and pedestrians, but pirate ships? For folks in Idaho Falls, that was a legit concern as a land worthy pirate vessel was towed from the airport to the Museum of Idaho.

The stunt was all in preparation for the museum’s new pirate exhibit scheduled to open this Friday. “How can you have a pirate exhibition on the level that we’re doing and not have a pirate ship,” said Nick Gailey of the Museum of Idaho.

Just finding a ship was a challenge for the museum staff. Ironically they found one in a location that’s very, very different from the ocean, the Idaho desert.

“We looked everywhere,” said Gailey. “And then after about three months of not being able to find one or construct one, we found this vessel in Arco.”

The Museum of Idaho is borrowing the vessel from Butte County High School for the next several months. The ship is currently parked in front of the Museum of Idaho and will stay their for the duration of the pirate exhibit.
