Animal shelter burglarized

The Idaho Falls Animal Shelter was burglarized this week.

Police said an animal control officer discovered the burglary at the building on Hemmert Avenue just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The burglar had broken into the office, pried open a safe, and took cash and checks, police said in a news release Thursday.

Authorities are not sure how the burglar got into the shelter.

“We don’t know,” said Irene Brown, animal services manager. “We haven’t been able to find any way that they got in, so, that’s still a mystery to us.”

If you have any information on this burglary, call police at (208) 529-1200.
