Microsurfacing project extends Pocatello street life
The city of Pocatello said taxpayers can expect a long-term savings following a massive summer-long microsurfacing project on streets across the Gate City.
“They use oil and rock and they seal the road,” explained Logan McDougall, a city spokesperson.
McDougall described the process as a “preventative” measure that could extend the life of the pavement by five to seven years.
“If you do a little preventative maintenance now, you don’t have to spend the big money later on to completely replace the road,” said McDougall.
The city estimates repaving the roads would cost about $9 per square foot. Microsurfacing, on the other hand, only costs $2.50 per square foot.
