Bannock County Democrats rally for Bernie Sanders
Sen. Bernie Sanders, one of the Democrats’ candidates for the upcoming presidential election, brought his campaign to Pocatello Wednesday.
To inform southeastern Idahoans of Sanders’ campaign, Sanders supporters from the Bannock County Democrats hosted a livestream viewing at their headquarters. The viewing was open to the public and started at 5:30 p.m.
Despite the tight quarters, supporters of Sanders filed in to hear the presidential hopeful. Organizers encouraged attendees to bring ideas that could help Sanders’ campaign, which many supporters there described as a campaign for the people.
“None of these people here will be a paid staffer from the Bernie Sanders campaign,” said event organizer Kara Jacks. “It’s all volunteers and they’re coming together because Bernie Sanders represents us and the things we want.”
Although it was being hosted at their headquarters, the Bannock County Democrats as a whole wanted it to be clear they were not fully endorsing Sanders with this event.
“Whoever the Democratic candidate is, we’re going to support them. We’re not endorsing Bernie, we’re giving him a venue to where people can come and learn more about him,” said Mike Saville, District 28 legislative chairman for the Bannock County Democrats.
There will be a re-showing of the livestream at 8 p.m. at the headquarters.
Over 100,000 people signed up to host Sanders’ livestream.
