Fire destroys barn and shop in Jefferson County
A fire broke out in a structure on 3700 East, just north of County Line Road in Jefferson County, Sunday evening
The fire started when the owner was burning scrap wood near several structures. The fire spread quickly.
Two structures, a fifth wheel and two cars were destroyed. The fire spread to the barn and shop full of mechanical equipment. Both buildings were engulfed in flame by the time firefighters responded. The estimated loss is worth more than $90,000.
Carl Anderson, Assistant Fire Chief of Central Fire District said, “Right now it is so dry outside we would strongly encourage people not to burn. If you absolutely think you have to burn we would tell people (to) be very aware of their surroundings. Make sure they have a good, defensible space. Make sure they have plenty of water. Wet down any area around the fire if they choose to burn. But we would encourage people do not burn at this time.”
