Bond to expand Bannock County jail proposed
The Bannock County commissioners are continuing discussion on a bond for renovating the Bannock County Jail.
The jail has had an ongoing issue with overcrowding. Public hearings will be held to educate the community on the proposed bond.
If the bond passes in this November’s election it would pay for expansion.
Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said the problem will not go away if not handled.
“We have to follow other routes but it’s not another route of everything will be alright. The constitution does say we must treat prisoners in a non cruel and unusual circumstances we cannot overcrowd or lay them on the floor we have to take care of their basic needs,” said Sheriff Nielsen.
