Local LGBT center awarded grant for third year

Southeast Idaho’s LGBT resource center All Under One Roof received a grant from the Gamma Mu Foundation, an organization that supports LGBT centers in rural or under served areas.

Gamma Mu presented a $4,000 check to AUOR’s board of directors during their “Understanding LGBT Youth” seminar. AUOR will receive another $4,000 in the future, making their grant total $8,000.

Chuck Kuglan, who serves on the grants committee for Gamma Mu, said the organization likes to support centers over and over.

“They’ve showed need. They’ve showed that they didn’t have a lot of support from other entities,” Kuglan said. “They had a very good mission and a plan that they wrote up.”

The grant will primarily fund outreach programs for Pocatello and surrounding communities. They also plan to invest some money advertising the center’s services.

On receiving a Gamma Mu grant for the past three years, AUOR’s board chairman Kevin Lish said it shows the center is on the right track.

“We’re going to make sure Pocatello has a great LGBT center and the LGBT community is fully represented and feels like they have a normal life here,” he said.

AUOR also plans to use the grant to produce a newsletter, host a second LGBT prom and buy a sign for their center on Main Street.
