The Race is On

Runners took their marks Saturday, and made strides in the 16 annual Portneuf Medical Center Marathon.

Runners stretched to get ready for the Marathon, the heavy winds and cooler temperatures didn’t stop them from running.

Supporters, family, friends and volunteers cheered on the track men and women while they made their cross the finish line.

One man traveled all the way from San Francisco to run.

“The altitude was pretty tough training at sea level and coming to 5,000 feet above but it was a great time I had a lot of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone else looking to run in Idaho,” said Michael Hipolito, a marathon runner.

Hipolito’s goal is to run a marathon in all 50 states, so far he has ran in 18 states.

Hipolito’s next state to run?

“Florida Disney world, so that will be my next race,” said Hipolito.

Marathon Participants had the choose to run either a full, half, 10k or 5k marathon.

One runner said she has been training all summer.

“So it took a lot of hard work to run that I’ve run two halves this fall or this summer, both in June and July to prepare for this and just trained. My husband helps with my work outs so it takes a lot of time a lot of time,” said Keysha Stutz, a marathon runner.

Marathon runners took home awards, trophies, duffel bags and metals for their participation in the marathon.
