Local math teacher up for national award

An Idaho Falls math teacher is one of three in the state up for a national award.

Compass Academy instructor Mary Towler is a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science teaching.

Towler says with the right level of challenge and support, all students can succeed.

“If we give them a challenge, and give them that opportunity to attack it, and see where they’re coming from and what questions they have to get to the final product, they can do it,” she said.
