Firefighters recognize key fire zones

Idaho Falls Fire Department has collected information on fires in the area for several years.

For the first time ever, they’re tackling this problem by donating smoke detectors to those in need.

The department identified four major areas in Idaho Falls where house fires are an ongoing problem- most of them due to lack of smoke detectors in the home.

During a fire, most people only have a two minute time period to get out of the house to avoid injuries or even death.

“We’re trying to give everyone a head start to get out the door,” said Ken Anderson, Fire Marshall for Idaho Falls Fire Department.

The fire department will be making rounds on Oct. 17th to raise awareness for Fire Prevention Month.

“Most of these fires happen at night, it’s not necessarily a time of year, it’s a time of day and so we have less than two minutes now to really get out of our homes and so the smoke alarm makes a huge difference in that time period,” said Anderson.
