Fremont County Sheriff reminds residents to be bear aware

The Fremont County Sheriff’s office wants to remind residents that because of the dry and warm fall we are having, bears are moving down into low lying areas looking for food.

There have already been a high amount of bear and human contacts this year. The sheriff’s office say you can avoid contact by being prepared. You can do this by taking care of any trash around your property, pick any fruit that may be on trees and bushes or on the ground, bird feeders need to be put away.

Anything that you would do in the mountains, you should also put into action at home until the bears begin hibernating.

Fremont County Sheriff’s office reports that they have been having problems with bears in the Ashton, Chester, St. Anthony and Egin areas.

If you are having a problem with bears please call the Fremont County Sheriff’s office at 208-624-4482 or the Idaho Fish and Game office at 208-525-7290.
