BLM seeking public input on future plans for St. Anthony Sand Dunes

What entrance do you normally accesses the sand dunes? Should the Bureau of Land Management allow large scale events to take place at the sand dunes? Should there be a limit for how many people can access the sand dunes on any given day? These are just some of the questions the BLM is asking people in a new survey about the St. Anthony Sand Dunes.

“We would like to start drafting a recreation area plan for the St. Anthony sand dunes and we’re seeking public input to help with that process” said Shannon Bassista, an outdoor recreational planner with the BLM.

The goal is to create a draft plan for how the BLM manages the area in the future. “We’re going to take the visitors information on what they would like to see out there and roll it into a variety of alternatives,” said Bassista.

The 46 plus thousand acre recreational area has become increasingly popular over the several years, with the number of visitors more than doubling since 2003.

The BLM says while a majority of visitors use the region for motor sports recreation, they also see a large number people using the dunes for hiking, running, horse riding, and star gazing.
