Local charges dropped in wake of federal case against Burgett

Bingham County Prosecutor Cleve Colson announced today that Matthew Burgett has been indicted on federal charges of unlawful possession of bombs or destructive devices and on one count of an act of terrorism.

As a result of the federal indictment Bingham County will drop their charges in the case against Burgett.

All agencies involved in the investigation have worked collectively and based on numerous discussion it was determined that the United States Attorney’s Office will proceed with the prosecutor of Matthew Burgett in the federal court system.

Colson says the federal indictment will charge Burgett with the same charges Bingham County originally present. That would be six counts of unlawful possession of bombs or destructive devices and one count of an act of terrorism.
