Understanding open range laws

A shooting in Adams County has many folks thinking about open range laws.

A driver there hit a bull on the road, but who’s fault is it: the ranchers or the drivers?

Well, in Idaho it’s the driver because Idaho is an open range state.

That means people have a duty to fence ‘out’ livestock rather than ‘fence in’ livestock.

So if you hit livestock with your car while in open range, you pay the rancher for the dead cow or dead horse.
