Consumer website finds Pocatello has cheapest home insurance rates
After examining home insurance rates in in cities all over Idaho, the consumer website ValuePenguin found the Gate City residents have the cheapest insurance statewide.
By looking at home insurance prices from GEICO, Liberty Mutual, State Farm and Farmers Insurance– ValuePenguin found the average home insurance premium to be $937 a year. This is about an 11 percent difference in Idaho’s average, which is $1,041.
ValuePenguin used a model home for their study:2,000 square feet, had a garage, and had one and a half bathrooms. It then collected home insurance prices from GEICO, Liberty Mutual, State Farm and Farmers insurance to get their results.
Pocatello State Farm agent Summer Jackman said the rates are low because of the area’s mild weather.
“With the exception of isolated things here and there, we don’t really get severe weather,” said Jackman. “That makes a big difference.”
The big difference being fewer claims being filed, which signals companies to keep prices low.
Jackman believes other facets of the Gate City help home insurance stay cheap, saying the city’s low crime rate could be a part of it.
“We do have theft claims that go in, but on the whole it’s probably lower than average,” she said.
