Idaho Falls teen comes face-to-face with armed burglar

Idaho Falls Police say an attempted burglary suspect is still on the run as of Thursday night.

It happened at a home in the 800 block of Pescadero Place Thursday morning.

The burglary investigation did prompt a temporary “shelter in place” at Longfellow Elementary School for less than an hour as police looked for a burglary suspect.

It started off as a normal Thursday morning for 19-year-old Eduardo Garcia.

He was surfing the web when all of the sudden he heard a loud noise.

Garcia went downstairs to check it out when he found a man wearing a black ski mask and gray sweatshirt.

“He had the gun pointed at me,” said Garcia.

The man told the teen to go back into his room but he didn’t listen.

“I was like this can’t be real. I just took a few steps and then he fired off the one warning shot and said he wasn’t kidding, Garcia said.

The suspect then ran out the back door.

As officers combed the area for the suspect, school officials at Longfellow Elementary School were notified and advised to “shelter in place” for safety.

Anyone with information regarding this burglary is asked to contact the IFPD at 529-1200 or Crimestoppers at 522-1983.
