University of Wyoming to hire a diversity coordinator
The University of Wyoming president has announced plans to create a diversity coordinator position and form a committee tasked with increasing inclusivity on campus.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that university spokesman Chad Baldwin says the new position was created in response to concerns about the lack of diversity on campus.
President Dick McGinity said in a news release that the diversity coordinator position will be created immediately. The Diversity Strategic Planning Committee is expected to release a plan in February.
The president’s announcement comes after allegations last month that a group of high school students visiting the university were racially profiled.
The group was suspected of shoplifting at the campus bookstore and detained by police. A search of their belongings turned up no sign of stolen merchandise.
