Groundbreaking kicks off construction for new Idaho Falls fire station
The Idaho Falls Fire Department and other city officials hosted the groundbreaking for the new fire station Friday morning.
The City Council approved the estimated $4.3 million project in November. That’s not the definite price, it’s just the most the project could end up costing.
The floor in the current fire station is cracking and a study from 2013 shows it can’t hold the weight of the fire engines.
Hanneman says this is a much needed, long-term investment.
“Our current station has lasted 85 years, so we hope this new station will do the same,” he said. “We’re designing it to be a 75- to 100-year-old building.”
The new fire station will be downtown on E Street between Shoup Avenue and Park Avenue.
