St. Anthony man arrested for eluding police

Idaho Falls Police arrested 23-year-old Nathan D. Barney for felony eluding after he failed to stop for police early Wednesday morning.

Barney of St. Anthony was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

According to police reports, officers attempted to stop a red Pontiac Grand Am for a traffic violation at Skyline and Broadway around 2:30 a.m. The vehicle failed to stop and continued on Skyline where it eventually turned east onto Grandview. The vehicle then ran a red light at Grandview and the Interstate 15 interchange.

An officer sighted the vehicle at Elmore and Micro about five minutes later. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle continued to elude police. Officers turned off their overhead lights after the vehicle began accelerating its speed to about 60 mph on Ada and running stop
signs.

Officers later found the vehicle parked in an alley off of Canal between K and L streets. The driver, Barney, and a female passenger were located hiding outside near a residence.

Barney was taken into custody and the passenger was released.
