Local man donates blood 269 times, totaling 33 1/2 gallons

A local man has donated blood 269 times totaling 33 1/2 gallons of it.

Reginald Reeves said he does it simply to help people. Reeves said he’d give an arm if it could replace itself as easily as blood does.

Even after giving gallons of blood, Reeves said he still does it because the need is still there.

And for anyone who is afraid of the process, Reeves said there is no reason to be

“If your mother needed the blood, would the fright keep you from doing it? From donating? Think of it that way,” he said.

The American Red Cross has an emergency need for blood and platelet donors. Due to the severe winter weather this month, it’s had to cancel more than 300 blood drives across 20 states, resulting in more than 9,500 donations uncollected, further depleting an already low winter supply.
