Fremont County responds to two search and rescue calls
Two snowmobliers were resuced by Fremont County Search and Rescue Saturday night.
A 36-year-old Idaho Falls man was stranded about 100 yards north of the Big Springs Bridge in Island around 8:30 p.m. According to the sheriff’s office, he left several young campers at their camp to search a 57-year-old snowmobiler from their party. The older snowmobiler had ridden to their vehicle to bring in another load of supplies, and he was late returning. The younger snowmobiler was just past Big Springs Bridge when his snowmobile quit. The sheriff’s office says he assumed the chain case broke.
The sheriff’s office says both men were rescued just after 10 p.m. Both men and campers were in good condition when the search team left.
About 25 minutes later Fremont county was dispatched to a call for help by 2 girls who had slid off the road. Fremont County Sheriff’s Dispatch received the report of girls over the side of a ravine screaming “Help Me!” and “I am going to die!” At the time of the call, the reporting party was unable to see the girls, and he was uncertain whether the girls may have fallen into Warm River.
When Search and Rescue arrived they found the girls had slid off the road at the intersection of Fish Creek Road and Highway 47.
The reporting party was able to pull the girls back onto the road. It is believed one of the girls suffered a panic attack, but they were returned to their cabin in good health.
