BYU-Idaho gets runway ready
Brigham Young University-Idaho hosted their annual wedding and floral fashion show Saturday where students got the opportunity to showcase their handmade pieces.
Many girls just like Martha Gomez are taking classes that teach them fashion merchandising.
“I think I want to make dresses in the future,” Gomez said.
Students were given the assignment to craft either a floral arrangement or a garment.
Gomez designed a wedding gown that took days to make. She created the beaded and laced dress singlehandly.
“I decided learning how to sew would help so that’s what I did. The dress took a long time to make,” Gomez said.
Carter Strasser said he’s seen more and more men stepping into the clothes design world.
“I got into the program. Now it’s getting more and more popular for guys,” he said.
The school is also teaming up with KLIM Outfitters to offer students internships along with adding an apparel entrepreneurship bachelor of science degree that will be a collaboration between family and consumer science, and the business department.
