Pocatello City announces partnership with social networking site

Create your own online neighborhood.

That’s what the City of Pocatello wants you to do. The city has partnered with the social networking website Nextdoor to make it possible. It officially started Thursday.

The city said Nextdoor is a way for it to communicate with specific neighborhoods. Each person can create a free online account. When people sign up, they put in their address, which connects them to their neighborhood. This allows the city to be able to send out information that is relevant to certain areas only. The city can send out emergency alerts, construction notices and other important news for residents.

The city said this way those who aren’t affected by the information aren’t bothered by constant alerts.

“We think it’s gonna be a big benefit because of that localized ability,” said Logan McDougall, Pocatello’s public information officer. “The fact that we can just let certain people know about the things that are happening in their neighborhood.”

The city said so far it has about 200 households registered on Nextdoor.
